Essay import pipeline

Wrote a one-off importer, `scripts/import-essays.js`, that converts my essay markdown files and work-diary entries into the site's content JSON format, preserving the prose verbatim. For essays, the `# Title` line becomes the title and the rest becomes a single section body. For diary entries, each `## Heading` becomes its own section. This removes the hand-transcription step that had been the friction in getting writing onto the site.

Four essays published

Ran the importer and published four essays to danielsilbaugh.com:

Started publishing the work diary

Added a new `work-diary` content type to the site and published the August 1 entry as a public page, titled "August 1, 2026" with the summary "Building in public: founding-post results, a pivot to paid ads for Dum Phones."

This is the build-in-public part of the distribution plan actually starting. The plan has said since July that every meaningful project should produce proof, media, and relationships, and that the work should leave a public trail. Publishing the diary is the cheapest version of that — the writing already exists as a byproduct of doing the work, so the marginal cost of making it public is close to zero. It also means the record of the Dum Phones launch, the job search, and the strategy changes is public as it happens rather than reconstructed later.
